Amp is a frontier coding agent — highly opinionated tooling on top of the best models, built to get the most out of an agent rather than keep the old ways. It runs on the web, in the terminal and on the phone, and it moves where the models take it: old workflows and stale assumptions are deleted so you stay close to what works now.

The standout feature is orbs — remote machines that keep working without supervision after you close your laptop. Threads run in orbs and can be picked up from any device, so long agent runs keep going while you're away, and Amp stays responsive on even the largest threads teams work with.

Amp is extensible through plugins that hook into events, add tools and standardize policy, then deploy to a workspace. It is built by an independent agent research lab that spun out of Sourcegraph in late 2025, shipping product rather than papers.
