Codeberg.org is a software development platform run by Codeberg e.V., a registered non-profit association based in Berlin, Germany. It is built on Forgejo, a self-hostable Git forge, and hosts repositories with issue trackers, pull requests, wikis and project pages for free software. The association describes itself as a democratic, community-driven and non-commercial alternative to for-profit forges such as GitHub: members join Codeberg e.V., pay a membership fee and take part in decisions about the platform. The service carries no tracking, no third-party cookies and no advertising, and Codeberg states that it does not sell user data.

Beyond Git hosting, Codeberg offers Codeberg Pages for static sites, CI/CD through Woodpecker CI and Forgejo Actions, and Codeberg Translate, a Weblate instance for localisation. Its homepage lists roughly 400,000 registered users, more than 650,000 projects and over 1,700 members of the association. Public repositories have no fixed quota for valid use cases, though requests above 750 MiB of Git storage or 1.5 GiB of packages, LFS and attachments need approval first. Since 2022 Codeberg has acted as an umbrella organisation backing Forgejo's development.

Codeberg e.V. was formed in September 2018 with seven founding members and launched Codeberg.org in January 2019. It is funded by donations and membership fees rather than charges to users, which it notes leaves it with less funding than platforms that bill per user. Its stated mission is to maintain a free collaboration platform for creating, archiving and preserving code, and the stack is free software throughout — Forgejo, Woodpecker CI, Weblate and Codeberg's own Pages server — so a team that outgrows the shared instance can run the same forge itself.
