ONLYOFFICE

ONLYOFFICE is an open-source office suite, distributed under AGPL 3.0 with its source on GitHub, covering documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDF forms and PDFs. The editors run in the browser, as free desktop applications for Windows, Linux and macOS, and as iOS and Android apps, and were built on the HTML5 Canvas element rather than native desktop code. Organisations can use them inside ONLYOFFICE DocSpace, a room-based collaboration platform with its own file structure and permissions, inside ONLYOFFICE Workspace with mail, calendar, CRM and project management, or embedded in a platform the customer already runs.

The editors take about 40 ready-made integrations, including Box, Moodle, Nextcloud and Odoo, and can be embedded into a vendor's own product under its brand. Collaboration covers character- and paragraph-level co-editing, change tracking, document comparison, comments and mentions, built-in chat, and audio and video calls through Jitsi or Rainbow. On the security side there are three levels of encryption — at rest, in transit and end-to-end — GDPR-aligned data handling, tighter document permissions, and support for AI models run locally. It is used by more than 21 million people, and community builds can be self-hosted.

ONLYOFFICE is developed by Ascensio System SIA, headquartered in Riga, Latvia. The brand sits under a holding company registered in Singapore, and the project's departments are spread across Riga, Singapore, London, Dallas, Belgrade, Yerevan, Tashkent and Shanghai, with employees and contributors in more than 30 countries. The founder and CEO is Lev Bannov. Compatibility with Microsoft Office and OpenDocument formats is the central technical claim; the suite began as an internal collaboration tool before it was released publicly.
