Business overview

CryptPad is a browser-based collaboration suite — rich text, spreadsheets, slides, whiteboards, kanban boards, forms and code or markdown pads — in which content is encrypted in the browser before it is stored. No readable data leaves the user's device, so the people running a server cannot see what a document contains, and collaborators can join from a shared link without creating an account.

The suite covers real-time co-editing, team drives, a calendar and file sharing, with changes synchronised as they are typed and access available anonymously or through an account. It runs on the vendor's public instance or on your own server: cryptpad.fr plans cost €5 to €100 per month, managed cloud or on-premise deployments start around €1.5K per year, and enterprise tiers run from 50 users with 100GB of storage up to 1,000 users with 1TB, adding custom domains, single sign-on, admin control over quotas and upload limits, and a choice of where encrypted data is stored. Documentation currently tracks version 2026.5.0.

CryptPad is free and open-source software, developed and offered from France, and has been supported since 2016 by French and European research grants including BPI France, the NLnet Foundation, NGI Trust and Mozilla Open Source Support. The development team sells subscriptions and support contracts for ready-to-use deployments, and states that the project aims to be funded by its users through subscriptions and donations rather than by outside investors.
