Sylius

Sylius is an open-source, headless eCommerce platform written in PHP on top of Symfony. Store functionality is assembled from decoupled components — cart, checkout, payments, promotions, catalogue — rather than configured through an admin panel, and the frontend is deliberately separate: the platform ships a REST API built with API Platform, so the shop can be rendered by any frontend or split into microservices. That makes it a framework a development team builds on rather than a hosted product it subscribes to.

It is most often chosen for B2C and B2B commerce where the pricing, checkout and catalogue rules are specific to the business. The project cites 10,000+ online stores, a Slack community of 7,400+ developers, 700+ contributors and 76 solution partners worldwide, and lists implementations at Groupe Guinot – Mary Cohr, Einhell AG, HYPEBEAST, Larian Studios, JobCloud, Packhelp and Sulu CMS. Deployment runs on a single VPS and extends to Docker and Kubernetes, and automated testing follows a behaviour-driven approach so store logic is covered by tests rather than checked by hand. A commercial edition, Sylius Plus, adds enterprise modules on top of the open-source core.

The project began in 2011, when an in-house shop was rewritten on Symfony and published on GitHub; the Sylius organisation was set up and version 1.0.0 released in 2017, and Sylius Plus followed in 2019. Sylius is headquartered in Poland, with its registered office on Książąt Opolskich in Opole, and remains open source and self-hostable: the codebase and documentation are public, and the company positions the platform for mid-market and enterprise brands that need custom builds.
