PrestaShop

PrestaShop is an open-source e-commerce application that merchants download and run on their own servers, keeping ownership of the store and its data. It is written in PHP and runs on MySQL or MariaDB — the current 9.0 line, whose first stable release arrived on 10 June 2025, requires PHP 8.1 or newer and MySQL 5.6+ — and shops are extended through modules and themes rather than through a fixed feature set. Those add-ons come from a dedicated marketplace covering payments, shipping, marketing, design and localisation.

PrestaShop says more than 250,000 merchants run its software and calls itself the leading open-source e-commerce solution in Europe and Latin America; sites built on it generated more than €22 billion in online sales in 2024, according to the company. Its ecosystem is counted at 250+ experts, 150+ partners and over a million community members, and the platform ships with support for the major payment services, multi-language and multi-country localisation, and a responsive back office as well as storefront. Commercially, the company offers the self-hosted Classic variant, PrestaShop Hosting, and a Custom/Enterprise line for larger operations.

The company behind it, PrestaShop SA, was founded in 2007 by Igor Schlumberger and Bruno Lévêque and is headquartered in Paris at 82 Avenue du Maine, registered on the Paris trade register under 497 916 635. The software itself is produced by a global community of contributors, with the company developing commercial products on top of that project. Mikołaj Król became chief executive in 2026, after Olivier Binet joined as managing director in September 2025.
