Business overview

Infomaniak is a Swiss hosting and cloud provider that owns and runs its own data centres. The portfolio covers domain names, shared and WordPress web hosting, business email, storage, backups and public cloud, and the platform underneath is OpenStack rather than a proprietary stack. Its IaaS line exposes Ceph/Cinder block storage, Swift object storage with an S3-compatible API, Neutron networking and Octavia load balancers, with AWS-compatible Heat templates for orchestration.

Cloud instances run on next-generation AMD CPUs with ECC RAM, NVIDIA GPUs and NVMe PCIe Gen4 storage, spread over 6 zones in 2 regions, with block volumes up to 10 TB, guaranteed 4,000 IOPS and 800 MB/s, and an encrypted three-replica Ceph cluster. Networking is a redundant 25 Gbps BGP setup with floating IPs and DDoS protection. Billing is metered and self-service, with no setup fee and no minimum. The company's own comparison puts a 4 vCPU / 8 GB / 50 GB instance at CHF 16.10 per month against CHF 205.28 at Azure and CHF 190.30 at AWS. Data centres are tier 3+ and certified to ISO 27001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 9001. Public Cloud, reserved for large customers since 2012, powers kDrive, Swiss Backup and Webmail.

Infomaniak has been operating since the early 1990s. Its teams work only in Switzerland, from Geneva (headquarters) and Zurich, with no outsourcing abroad and around 70% of staff in R&D. The founder, Boris Siegenthaler, remains involved as Chief Strategy Officer alongside CEO Marc Oehler. Ownership sits with the founders and employees, with an Infomaniak Foundation holding shareholder rights to protect the company's independence. Electricity is renewable, data centres are cooled with natural air and newer ones reuse consumed energy to heat homes.

Value proposition

The public cloud is plain OpenStack - Swift, Cinder, Neutron, Heat - in ISO 27001 Swiss data centres, so existing tooling and Heat templates stay portable instead of locking into a proprietary API.
