Business overview

Elastx is a Swedish cloud provider whose Elastx Cloud Platform is aimed at business-critical services and sensitive data. OpenStack IaaS is the core of the platform and the foundation for a managed Kubernetes container service (CaaS) and a database service (DBaaS); a Virtuozzo-based PaaS is offered as the entry-level option for simpler workloads. Resources are billed by the hour, and the platform is built on open-source code and open standards, which the company describes as leaving no technical or commercial lock-in.

The primary region, se-sto, spans three geographically separated data centres up to 20 km apart, and the Kubernetes service always runs across all three. DBaaS covers MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL and Valkey, and GPUs can be attached in both the OpenStack and Kubernetes services. Storage is encrypted at rest, traffic between the data centres is encrypted, secrets are managed in an HSM cluster, and inline L3/L4 DDoS protection covers the platform; the data centres are Tier 3 and staffed around the clock, with 24x7 support on the services. Cloud VPN, Cloud Connect and Cloud Exchange link it to other data centres and clouds. Named references on its site include the private healthcare provider Praktikertjänst and Prorenata, and the company holds ISO 27001 (since 2015), 27017, 27018 and 14001 certifications.

Elastx is based at Kungsgatan 9 in Stockholm. Its infrastructure runs on renewable energy, and it states that its staff are Swedish citizens who undergo annual background checks. It positions itself as the Swedish alternative for organisations that need data kept inside Sweden and under Swedish and European law, with a stated emphasis on GDPR and other rules covering personal data.

Value proposition

Data residency you can actually verify: two Swedish regions, the primary one spread over three Tier 3 data centres run by Swedish staff, so regulated workloads stay under Swedish and EU law instead of a US hyperscaler's jurisdiction.
