Business overview

Exoscale is a European cloud provider offering compute instances, managed Kubernetes, S3-compatible object and block storage, networking such as VPCs, load balancing and private connectivity, database as a service covering SQL, key-value and vector databases, and GPU servers for training and running AI models. The platform is API-driven and built on open standards, and its CLI, Terraform provider, Kubernetes integrations and SDKs are published as open source on GitHub.

It operates ten data centres across Europe: Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland, Vienna in Austria, Frankfurt and Munich in Germany, Sofia in Bulgaria and Zagreb in Croatia, with data staying in the jurisdiction of the zone chosen. Compute instances are provisioned in roughly 10 seconds and managed Kubernetes clusters in about 2 minutes. Support is engineer-led and based in Europe, and the infrastructure holds ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018, SOC 2, BSI C5 and CSA STAR certifications. All server locations sit in Europe, which the company contrasts with non-EU hyperscalers that fall under extra-territorial rules such as the US CLOUD Act. Its site names CERN and leading European research institutions among its users, and Exoscale is part of A1 Telekom Austria Group.

The platform is run by Akenes SA, a private company founded in 2011 and headquartered in Switzerland, and it is a member of A1 Digital. The company frames itself as the European alternative for teams moving off non-EU providers, emphasising reversibility, portable workflows and pricing that is as transparent as it can make it.

Value proposition

Usage is genuinely reversible: open-standard APIs, an open-source CLI and Terraform provider, and a zone-by-zone choice of where data lives, so leaving means re-running your tooling elsewhere instead of rewriting it.
