JetBrains is a developer-tools company. It builds desktop IDEs for individual programming languages — IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, PhpStorm, GoLand, CLion, Rider, RubyMine and RustRover — together with .NET tools, a continuous integration server in TeamCity, an issue tracker in YouTrack and the Toolbox App for managing installations. The products are proprietary and vendor-hosted. The company also develops the Kotlin language, the Ktor framework and Compose Multiplatform.

The company reports 12.5 million recurring active users, 88 customers drawn from the Fortune Global Top 100 and 2,600 employees, working from 15 offices: Amsterdam, Belgrade, Berlin, Boston, Foster City, Limassol, London, Madrid, Marlton, Munich, Paphos, Prague, Shanghai, Warsaw and Yerevan. The catalogue covers IDEs and language support, database work in DataGrip, code quality in Qodana, notebooks in Datalore, and newer AI products including Junie, Mellum and Koog. JetBrains builds its own products with its own products, and says its tools have taken more than 115 industry awards.

JetBrains started in 2000 and is headquartered in Prague, with the fifteen offices above split between Europe, the United States and Asia. It sells commercial licences to individual developers, teams and large enterprises rather than offering one self-hosted suite: 4 million customers in total, counting paid and complimentary licences together.

Value proposition

One vendor covers the whole toolchain — the IDE, the .NET tools, CI in TeamCity, issue tracking in YouTrack — so a team can leave Visual Studio and its add-ons without splitting those jobs across four suppliers, and its own AI assistant, Junie, runs inside the same editors.
