Business overview

Runbox is a Norwegian email service: a webmail client plus standard access over POP, IMAP and SMTP, with CardDAV for contacts and CalDAV for calendar, so any mail app or domain you already use keeps working. Accounts are hosted on the company's own infrastructure in Oslo, and the service carries no advertising, no tracking and no inbox scanning; the servers run on certified renewable electricity, mostly Norwegian hydropower.

A subscription covers up to 50 GB of email storage, 10 GB of file storage, attachments up to 100 MB, up to 25 email domains and 100 aliases on Runbox domains with unlimited aliases on domains you own. Security features include two-factor authentication, full disk encryption at rest, SSL/TLS with Perfect Forward Secrecy, IP-based access control and compatibility with a browser PGP plugin, and infrastructure is monitored around the clock. Migration tools cover IMAP and POP imports, contacts through CardDAV or CSV and calendars through CalDAV, with staff assistance offered. There is a 30-day trial, the first account starts at $0.83 a month and extra accounts at $0.66, and payments are covered by a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Runbox is operated by Runbox Solutions AS, based at Oscars gate 27 in Oslo and registered in Norway under org. number 996877027, with the service running since 2000 and the company in its current form founded in March 2011. It is majority owned by employees and board members, works with Copyleft Solutions AS as systems partner and minority shareholder, and hosts its servers in a maximum security data centre in Oslo that was originally built for the Norwegian Government Computer Centre. Runbox reports over 1 million accounts served and customers in more than 170 countries.
