Jottacloud is a subscription cloud storage and backup service run from Norway. It uploads files and photo libraries from computers and phones automatically, keeps them in original quality, and adds an archive area for material that is not needed daily, version history, and sharing. Storage is metered on the smaller plans and unlimited on the top consumer one, with upload speed reduced gradually after 5 TB.
The service reports 1.9 million users. Plans run from 5 GB free to Unlimited at USD 12.99 a month or USD 129.90 a year, Home 1 TB for five users at USD 7.99 a month, and Pro 10 TB at USD 29.90 a month, the only tier licensed for commercial use. Files are stored uncompressed, RAW formats included, the last five versions of every file are kept, and AI photo search finds pictures from a description — the models are pre-trained on external datasets and not on customers' photos.
Jottacloud was founded in 2008 and is headquartered at Øvre Slottsgate 5 in Oslo. Its data centre runs on Norwegian hydropower and the servers are cooled by seawater. The company has chosen not to build end-to-end encryption, arguing it costs usability; privacy rests instead on Norwegian law and GDPR, and on the files staying in Norway.
Value proposition
The top plan removes the storage ceiling: unlimited space on one flat subscription, with the files kept in Norway rather than sized against a per-gigabyte allowance the way Google Photos and Backblaze plans are.
