LightOn is a production retrieval stack for documents — parsing, structured extraction and cited search behind one API key, so a team skips the nine-month RAG build. Its OCR model, LightOnOCR-2, turns scans, tables, handwriting and multi-column layouts into structured Markdown in 20+ languages, state-of-the-art on public parsing benchmarks and priced per page.
The extract endpoint takes a JSON Schema and returns the fields you ask for — invoice numbers, lease dates, clause text — as cited JSON, asynchronously via webhooks. Search is hybrid by default: dense, lexical and late-interaction signals on one query, with the index choosing the signal so the developer does not have to, and every result ships with the passage that produced it.
It is LLM-agnostic and MCP-native, so it drops into any agent, and access control is enforced at the chunk rather than the document. LightOn has published open retrieval models — LateOn, NextPlaid, PyLate, DenseOn — since 2016, and offers cloud, VPC, on-prem and air-gapped deployment with SSO, SCIM and GDPR / SOC 2 / AI Act readiness.
