Business overview

Psono is an open-source password manager built for companies, shipped either self-hosted or as a hosted service from the vendor. Vault data is encrypted in the client before it leaves the machine, so the server keeps ciphertext, with encryption also applied in transit and at rest. Access runs through a web client, an admin portal, desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, mobile apps for iOS and Android, and browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Edge.

Entries and folders are shared with users or groups under role-based access control, and access can be revoked when it is no longer needed, with no limit on how many people a secret is shared with. LDAP handles user provisioning and SAML or OIDC provides single sign-on; two-factor authentication works with Google Authenticator, Duo and YubiKey. Audit logs record who read what and when, security reports flag password age, length, complexity and known breaches, and high-availability setups cost nothing extra. Password management is free for up to 10 users, and larger teams start at EUR 2.5 per user for 25 users or more, with support and SLAs quoted separately.

Psono is developed by esaqa GmbH in Vorra, Germany, and the whole codebase can be audited publicly. A quickstart script installs the server on Debian, Ubuntu or SUSE in minutes, and a free hosted instance at psono.pw is kept for demonstration. Support runs through email and a Discord community, and organisations that would rather not run the server themselves can take the vendor's SaaS deployment.

Value proposition

Because the vault lives on your own servers and is encrypted client-side, credentials never sit in a vendor's infrastructure, while LDAP or SAML/OIDC keeps the directory and sign-on you already run.
