HERE Technologies builds and licenses maps, and sells the location platform underneath them: a unified live map for vehicles plus APIs and data for routing, guidance, places and automated driving. The product lines it leads with are assisted and automated driving, fleet routing and tour planning, and supplying spatial context to AI agents. The centre of it is a digital HD live map carrying road geometry, route profiles and traffic signs at global scale, which HERE describes as the standard for automotive-grade mapping. Its customers are automakers, logistics firms, mobility providers and technology brands.

HERE says it has roughly forty years of map-making behind it, starting with a digital map of San Francisco, and reports employees across 52 countries and more than 50 offices worldwide. The Omdia Location Platform Index ranks it first among location platform vendors, ahead of Google and Mapbox, a result HERE leans on heavily in its pitch. Price, flexibility and control of map data are the three arguments it uses against those rivals, aimed at customers building driver assistance, fleet operations or agent products that depend on reliable location context.

Its imprint names HERE Global B.V. in Eindhoven as the legal entity, while the company describes Amsterdam as its headquarters and lists offices in over 50 locations; its own 2020 directors' report names Audi, BMW, Bosch, Continental, Intel, Mitsubishi Corporation, NTT and Pioneer among the investors behind it. The platform is commercial and proprietary - APIs and data licensed to businesses rather than an open or self-hosted map - and the data-control argument is aimed squarely at organisations that do not want their location stack dependent on an advertising company.
