Business overview

Surfshark is a consumer cybersecurity suite built around a virtual private network. A single account covers desktop and mobile apps plus browser extensions, and the connection runs through servers it operates itself rather than through rented capacity. The VPN side uses WireGuard and Surfshark's own Nexus technology, which lets a user compose entry and exit server pairs for a multi-hop route or rotate the visible IP address on a timer.

The network spans 100+ countries and 4,500+ RAM-only servers, and a plan is not metered by device count: one subscription runs simultaneously across a household's devices. The wider suite adds antivirus with real-time file scanning and webcam protection, an alert service for leaked credentials, an ad-free search tool, alternative email and phone identities, and Incogni, which files removal requests with data brokers on the user's behalf. The company states a no-logs policy that has been reviewed in independent audits, and offers support by live chat and email around the clock.

Surfshark is a proprietary, vendor-hosted service registered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, at Kabelweg 57. The company launched its first product, the VPN, in 2018, has run its server fleet on RAM only since 2020, and added antivirus and Incogni in 2021. It merged with Nord Security in 2022 while continuing to operate under its own brand, counts 500+ employees across offices in Amsterdam, Vilnius, Kaunas, Warsaw and Berlin, and reports 40M+ app downloads.
